BangKhen Pavilion, Floating Market
This project was submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for THESIS BA(Hons) Architecture: Spaces and Objects , Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design , University of the Arts London. It examined an area which needed an improvement of both landscape and residential architecture. Therefore, Bangkhen Pavilion was established as a center of knowledge and meeting.
Besides, it was a floating market with unique characteristics of this local community. Material were finely selected to suit local architecture and modern urban architecture. Bamboo and iron fittings were utilized as main elements of this pavilion. Fittings connection of several parts were investigated to combine both materials in natural and modern way. Bamboo had potential to use as structure of beam. Bending and flexible properties of materials were tested to receive load. The modern shape of pavilion was also created as well.
My own Observation Bangkhen community
According to field survey on real site, I have found several problems in community, especially accommodations of villagers. The local people indicate potential raising expansion of area in their community while there is insufficient land for residents. This is another factor of why many houses are projected into canal. Actually, the width of canal is 50 meters but more new immigrants in the village try to use this area to extend their accommodations. Consequently, certain part of the canal is 30 meters width. Such current situation, the area is expanded by using the marine region as a selling point due to inadequate land for building. Most of villagers construct their houses by themselves because of their craft skills.
